Fender Neck Codes 1962-1972

 

        Fender began using a part code on necks rubber stamped on the end starting in April 1962. The Codes appear as such:

Example- 1 MAY 62 B

1 is a part code (not day of the month)

MAY is the month

62 = 1962

B= the nut width

 

The part codes are:

 

1- Jaguar 1962-1965

2-Stratocaster 1962-1965

3-Telecaster

4-Jazzmaster 1962-1965

5-Precision Bass

6-Bass 6

7-Jazz Bass

8-Musicmaster II, Mustang, Duo-Sonic II 1964-1965 22 fret 24" scale model

9-Musicmaster II, Mustang, Duo-Sonic II 1964-1966 21 fret 22 3/4" scale Model also found on '69 Swinger "Arrow/Musiclander"

10*- Coronado 1 and 2 and some 1966 Jazzmaster and Stratocaster necks

11-Bass 5

12-Electric 12 and Maverick/Custom model

13- Stratocaster 1966-1968, many 1966 Jazzmaster's too

14-Coronado 12

15-Jaguar 1966-1972

16-Musicmaster II, Mustang, Duo sonic II, and Bronco

17-Mustang Bass and MusicMaster Bass

18-Coronado Bass

19-Jazzmaster and Coronado 2

* Fender Jazzmaster and Stratocaster necks that have these codes have the appropriate full CBS headstock shape. If you see one of these with a Coronado headstock shape, small Strat headstock shape, or weird hybrid of old small and large headstock shapes, it is a reworked Coronado neck.
